About

Matthieu, James and Tom are cycling 250km around London, at night, so we can raise money for Many Minds. Please donate whatever you can affrord.

We are raising money for the newly created Many Minds charity, a performance based mental health charity setup by our great friend Olivia Ware. We are a team of two psychiatrists, and a couch potato with lots of energy. Mental health groups, and especially community based activities and projects for service users have suffered badly in recent times, with many projects now closed. Social isolation and lack of opportunities local to people’s homes make recovery from mental ill health tough. Many Minds steps into this gap, providing a novel opportunity for social engagement, improving confidence and self esteem through the means of performance. Please donate generously to this charity that means a great deal to all of us.

In November last year, our great friend Olivia, along with Viki, set up Many Minds; a mental health charity that uses performance arts as a tool to promote positive mental health, whilst reducing stigma and discrimination. Many people thought it was a bit of a risky move to start a brand new charity in these times of cuts and austerity, but they knew there was a growing need and are really happy to see that the work they are doing is having a huge impact on participants. Five months on, and they have run workshops and created performances for over 200 people. They both work in a mental health secure unit for 13-18 years olds on a weekly basis, have made 3 performances with young people who have experiences of homelessness and mental il-health, and they also run a weekly session with adults who identify with experiences of mental ill-health.

People come out of their shells, start to feel comfortable expressing themselves, are able to laugh, play, and interact with each other. They are building a community of people who come together to be creative, which is something you cannot get on the NHS, but acts as a powerful medicine.

We are inspired everyday by their members. Despite multiple adversites, they keep going, keep fighting, keep creating and produce incredibly gripping, real and moving performances that help change the public face of mental illness, challenge perceptions and start conversations.

Matthieu, James and Tom are doing this cycle ride for them. 250km at night around London, divided between our team of three. So that they can continue their work and reach even more people, that really benefit from being involved. Please give whatever you can. Every penny makes a difference.
